This client had lost his connections to his ISP, his ISDN service, and his ability to pick up e-mail, after installing the AOL software. We restored the ISDN settings and proved that it was then possible to connect, to surf websites, and pick up e-mail.
BUSINESS - Removal of Instability
This client was experiencing regular lockups and 'blue screens'. After we installed an Uninterruptible Power Supply, and refreshed a corrupt swap file, the client has enjoyed months of completely trouble-free business use.
HOME - Removal of KeyPanic Trojan and Choke Worm
KeyPanic takes over your keyboard. Regardless of what keys you press, the same very unpleasant message appears on your screen. Although Choke contains no harmful payload, it does contain many bugs that may eventually stop your system responding. The presence of these items is a clear indication of vulnerability to worse infections.
The family had allowed their teenagers to install MSN Messenger; the infections were probably acquired from a person encountered online. BUSINESS - Removal of BadTrans and SirCam
BadTrans steals your passwords and sends them to a hacker, then copies itself to all your e-mail contacts. SirCam will copy itself to all your e-mail contacts, attaching a randomly chosen document (which might be confidential), and may delete all files on your hard drive. The consequences for your business reputation that result from spamming all your contacts with a virus are not pleasant -- and if the file deletion is triggered, all your business records may be destroyed. Both of these infections exploit a loophole in ordinary Windows products. This loophole can be removed with Microsoft's free Windows Update service, preventing further infections -- which is why running Windows Update is included in our SpringClean service.
